Training powered flight
The PPL(A) private pilot's license
The private pilot's license without additional authorization entitles you to fly single-engine, piston-powered motor aircraft and also includes motor gliders and microlight aircraft. With this license you can charter and fly and fly airplanes worldwide. The charter price refers only to the time actually flown.
Motorized aircraft used (approved for training):
OE-ANZ - Katana DA20, Rotax 912is, 100hp
OE-CSP - Katana DA20, Rotax 912is, 100hp
OE-CSC - Katana DA20, Rotax 912is, 100hp
D-EHLM - Katana DA20, Rotax 912is, 100hp
D-ERCM - Katana DA20, Rotax 912is, 100hp
OE-KMV- Piper PA28, Lycoming, 180hp
OE-9465 - SF 25 C, Rotax 912, 100hp
Prerequisites
Required documents:
- Aeromedical examination report by a specially authorized doctor. A list of all doctors in Austria can be found on the homepage of the Austrian Aero Club. Costs between € 50.00 and € 100.00. (Normally glasses/contact lenses are no obstacle to flight training).
- Police clearance certificate in the original (extract from the criminal record): Not older than 6 months!
Minimum age 16 years
You receive your license at the age of 17 after successfully passing the theoretical and practical test.
Recommended maximum age at start of training 60 years
Theoretical training
The theoretical training takes place in our classrooms at Wels airfield. We impart all the knowledge required to fly safely as part of a combined PPL(A) and radio course. Instruction is given in the following subjects:
- Air law
- general aircraft knowledge
- Flight performance and flight planning
- human performance
- Meteorology
- Navigation
- Operational procedures
- Aerodynamics
- Radiotelephony
- Special arrangements are made in consultation with the training manager
Practical training
You can start your private pilot training with us at any time. We offer training on 4 Katana DA20 aircraft and, on request, a PA-28, which are housed in our hangar all year round and are therefore not exposed to the elements. and are therefore not exposed to the weather. These aircraft are considered to be the most proven, best and safest training aircraft in the world. In addition, two SF25C motor gliders are available as training aircraft as required.
The law stipulates 45 flying hours. As a supplement, a night flight qualification and TMG authorization (touring motor glider) can be sought.

Training dates & information evenings
Dates for the training courses offered (powered flight or gliding) can be found under „Training dates”. You can also send us a non-binding e-mail to office@wmw.at or call us on +43 7242 26499 0.
Further training
According to PART-FCL, familiarization with the aircraft is generally required for the change to an aircraft of a different type or series. This applies to the following aircraft types:
- Controllable pitch propeller
- Retractable undercarriage
- Turbo engine
- Tail wheel
a Differences Training with a flight instructor (according to PART-FCL) is required.
Within the framework of our flight school, we can provide differentiation training for all types of aircraft listed, with the exception of aircraft with pressurized cabins.
In addition to the SEP (Single-Engine-Piston, private pilot license) the TMG authorization can be acquired. In addition to the 45 hours SEP, at least 5 flight hours on a TMG are required.
- TMG authorization
- Ski instruction
The Weisse Möwe offers all three levels of radiotelephony certificates. The courses take place in our training room. Starting with the theory, through speaking in the group, to the examination at the telecommunications authority, each participant is accompanied by our specialized team of instructors, so a high success rate in the examination can be expected.
Legislation requires an appropriate radiotelephony certificate to fly an aircraft, whereby the minimum requirement is a BFZ. If you want to fly abroad, you need the EFZ in English, If you later want to fly according to instrument flight rules, you need the AFZ.
Types of aircraft radio certificates:
- Restricted radiotelephony certificate for the inland aeronautical radio service (BFZ) Authorized radiotelephony for domestic aeronautical radio (i.e. only in Austria) in German at aircraft radio stations
or ground radio stations for pilots operating under visual flight rules (VFR)
- Restricted radiotelephony certificate for the mobile aeronautical radio service (EFZ) Authorizes radiotelephony in English and German at aircraft radio stations or ground radio stations
for pilots operating under visual flight rules (VFR)
- General radiotelephony certificate for the mobile aeronautical radio service (AFZ) Authorizes radiotelephony in English and German at aircraft radio stations, aircraft ground radio stations and at ground radio stations for pilots operating under instrument flight rules (IFR)
According to PART-FCL, training for night vision flight is offered.
At the neighboring airport Linz-Hörsching the training can be carried out on a PA28 after consultation with the interested parties
